Great Trethew Trekking provides Alternative Provision through Equine-Assisted Learning in a Therapeutic Educational Environment.

We provide structured Alternative Provision placements for pupils referred by schools.
Our programme uses equine-assisted learning and outdoor education to support confidence, emotional wellbeing and engagement with learning

Pupils are referred by schools and attend structured placements designed to support engagement with education, personal development and emotional wellbeing.

The programme combines practical equine care, outdoor learning and structured activities to help pupils build confidence, responsibility and resilience.

Schools receive regular feedback regarding pupil progress and engagement.

Great Trethew Trekking is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All staff working with pupils hold appropriate DBS checks and operate in accordance with safeguarding guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Any safeguarding concerns are reported to the referring school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Referral Process

Schools can refer pupils for Alternative Provision placements by contacting us directly.

Following referral, we will discuss the pupil’s needs with the school and agree an appropriate placement structure.

Schools will be asked to complete a referral form and provide relevant pupil information before the placement begins.

Our provision may support pupils who:

• Struggle in mainstream classroom environments

• Need support with confidence and emotional wellbeing

• Benefit from experiential and outdoor learning

• Require small group or alternative learning environments

Monitoring Progress

We provide feedback to schools regarding pupil engagement, behaviour and progress during placements.

This helps schools monitor outcomes and review placements where appropriate.
